Derek Yu’s Spelunky sequel is coming out next year, and we now have confirmation from this trailer that the game will feature Ana Spelunky, the daughter of the first game’s protagonist. Ana apparently has access to either a cat launcher, or a cloning device that can clone felines. New for this sequel is online co-op, ride-able animal companions, dynamic fluid physics, and more.
Yu and Co’s UFO 50 mega game compilation is still expected later this year.
It looks like Mossmouth (Derek Yu) is attempting to appeal to dads and people who like dogs with this trailer for Spelunky 2, it’s working. No time table for release yet, but it’ll come to Steam (for Windows) and the PlayStation 4 first. It is being developed with Blitworks and Eirik Suhrke who is also working with Yu on the UFO 50 megacart.
Derek Yu, the developer of the amazing Spelunky side-scrolling rando-caver is putting together a multi-game collection called UFO 50 with a team of 4 other developers and artists. It’ll be 50 games that they reassure us are “…full games and not microgames or minigames!”
Each game will have its own director, although all of the people working on the project have collaborated with each other to improve on the other games in the collection.
I’m not sure I’d be excited for games with this 8-bit style from anyone else in 2017, but Yu’s Spelunky had an incredible following after it was released due to a daily challenge mode that popularized the concept and was an incredibly well put-together game.
UFO 50 is promised for a 2018 release on Windows before it hits other unspecified platforms.
Fantastic news for my fellow Spelunkers, since our last update Derek Yu has released version 1.0 of Spelunky. It is still a wonderful blend of nethack and Rick Dangerous, and it is still free. Now it has some extra bug fixes and will be coming to Xbox Live Arcade in the future.
